Commonwealth Bank and Trust
Neighborhood Block Party and Pedestrian Safety Initiative Awareness
Friday, June 29
12:00 PM

Speaker 1

  • Thank you all for coming out today. We are fortune to be able to join Commonwealth Bank and Trust for their Neighborhood Block Party on the very last day of our 2018 Giving Campaign.
  • With partners like CB and T we are able to foster the power of the arts to solve the challenges we face in our community in innovative and surprising ways.
  • With grant money provided by our partners at CB and T we look forward to supporting pedestrian safety awareness along Bardstown Road and the Highlands. And doing so through the most powerful tool we know, the Arts!

Speaker 2

  •  We are so excited to partner with Fund for the Arts, Look Alive Louisville, Metro Council District 8, and Squallis Puppeteers on pedestrian safety initiatives for Bardstown Road and the Highlands.
  • In 2017 Louisville saw an increase in pedestrian fatalities. With 25 deaths last year, our community is sadly, well above the national average in pedestrian fatalities.
  • With our Highlands branch positioned right here along one of the busiest roads in Louisville we see firsthand the safety needs of our customers and all pedestrian traffic in the Highlands. We look forward to the initiatives that these creative teams will begin to develop.

Speaker 3

  • Squallis is always excited to bring our larger than life puppets out to events that spark solutions to community concerns.
  • We specifically chose our Albert Einstein Puppet today to remind pedestrians and drivers to be geniuses when it comes to pedestrian safety.
  • We are so excited to once again partner with the Fund for the Arts, Look Alive Louisville and support Metro Council District 8.
  • We look forward to fostering the creativity of puppets for kids and adults to imagine a safe and pedestrian friendly city.  Much like our puppets are handmade using everyday materials, demonstrating that creativity and innovation are always within reach. We look forward to creating a dialogue and story around pedestrian safety in the highlands that is within reach for all citizens.

Speaker 4

  • Thank you to the Fund for the Arts, Commonwealth Bank and Trust and Squallis Puppeteers for being here today.
  • Thank you also to our partners at Look Alive Louisville who could not be here today.
  • Over the rest of the summer and into the fall we’ll be continuing to build this partnership.
  • In August look for our release of a comprehensive Bardstown Road safety study.
  • We plan to look at forming our awareness initiatives around the start of the 2018/2019 school year as we build partnerships with schools and the community during established events like National Walk to School Day and CYCLOUVIA.
  • With new partnerships, ideas and of course the use of creatives, artists and puppets we hope to support Look Alive Louisville’s  Pedestrian Master Plan and reduce the rate of pedestrian crashes by half by 2030!
